“Natty Bumpo” is a spontaneously drawn image on a blackened birch wood panel with white pencil and then the white cut out with chisels, then printed on Hosho paperin limited edition. The name, a protagonist in one of James Fenimore Coopers “Leather Stocking Tales” was borrowed from one of the tales because I’ve heard that the writer was in my family tree and... This print of “Natty Bumpo” is from VCJ’s private collection, a first edition printing done in the early 1990’s. This print is number 45 of 100 and is signed by V. Courtlandt Johnson. The original medium is a wood cut printed on 19” x 24” Japanese hosho paper.

Hosho is a traditional, high-quality kozo paper, strong and absorbent. It does not shrink or tear easily, making it a good paper for woodblock or lino printing. Sheets measure approximately 19" × 24" (approximately 48 cm × 61 cm), and are not sized, with deckle edges. Weight is 85 gsm.  Acid-free.
