"Natty Bumpo" - First Edition 45/100, [V.C. Johnson signature]

$3,033.00

“Natty Bumpo” is a spontaneously drawn image on a blackened birch wood panel with white pencil and then the white cut out with chisels, then printed on Hosho paperin limited edition. The name, a protagonist in one of James Fenimore Coopers “Leather Stocking Tales” was borrowed from one of the tales because I’ve heard that the writer was in my family tree and... I like it for this whimsical image. ~ V.C. Johnson, 2026

This print of “Natty Bumpo” is from VCJ’s private collection, a first edition printing done in the early 1990’s. This print is number 45 of 100 and is signed by V. Courtlandt Johnson. The original medium is a wood cut printed on 19” x 24” Japanese hosho paper.

Hosho is a traditional, high-quality kozo paper, strong and absorbent. It does not shrink or tear easily, making it a good paper for woodblock or lino printing. Sheets measure approximately 19" × 24" (approximately 48 cm × 61 cm), and are not sized, with deckle edges. Weight is 85 gsm.  Acid-free.

Some imperfections due to aging and storage.

Print includes signed & stamped Certificate of Authenticity.
