“Goose Mudra” was a spontaneously drawn image with white pencil on a blackened wood panel, the white cut away with chisels and printed in limited edition on Hosho paper. A mudra is a hand gesture of Indias tradition as a nonverbal mode of communication and spiritual self expression, said to be more powerful than words. There are many such hand gestures in all cultures that inform others of meaning without words. This whimsical image is meant to amuse one. ~ V.C. Johnson, 2026

This print of “Goose Mudra” is from VCJ’s private collection, a first edition printing done in the early 1990’s. This print is number 48 of 100 and is signed by V. Courtlandt Johnson. The original medium is a wood cut printed on 19” x 24” Japanese hosho paper.

Hosho is a traditional, high-quality kozo paper, strong and absorbent. It does not shrink or tear easily, making it a good paper for woodblock or lino printing. Sheets measure approximately 19" × 24" (approximately 48 cm × 61 cm), and are not sized, with deckle edges. Weight is 85 gsm.  Acid-free.
